The town centre of Eastleigh is approximately 500m away, which would take you roughly 6 minutes to walk to, 3 minutes to cycle. There are a variety of shops to be found in the city centre and surrounding area and especially in The Swan Shopping Centre . You can find shops such as Argos, Next, Dorothy Perkins, , Next and Tescos as well as various others here. Xelabus is one of the main bus service providers that operate in and around Eastleigh, though it is also served by First In Hampshire. Your closest bus stop can be found directly outside of Catherine Court on the opposite side of Leigh Road, or 50m to the west of the main entrance, also on Leigh Road. These stops are served by the X6 and X7 services, and these mainly serve the local area where you can journey to West End, Chandlers Ford, Hedge End, Velmore and Hiltingbury. Traveling by train could be something to think about more seriously considering how close Catherine Court is to a major rail network that services the surrounding solent area. Eastleigh station itself is just over 750m away from Catherine Court and would take roughly 9 minutes to walk to. Alternatively, you could cycle to the station in around 5 minutes. Not bad eh? This station is on a main line and is serviced by a direct train to London Waterloo, as well as Portsmouth Harbour, Southampton Central, Salisbury, Romsey and Poole. If you fancy getting out and about on your bike be that for your journey to the shops, for exercise or a leisurely activity, the map below provide you with information on your local cycle network. The map below shows you the routes around your local area. The green routes are traffic free, whilst the purple are on road routes.
This interactive map can be found on Sustrans, which is an extremely useful website which helps to enable people to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys. You can find local cycle routes close to Eastleigh by clicking here, as well as an assortment of interesting information on sustainable travel options. Did you know that you live on National Cycle Route 24? Or that you are just over 600m away from National Cycle Route 23? What better way to spend a leisurely weekend than on one of these National Cycle Routes, part of a well maintained collection of cycle paths found across the UK. Route 24 can take you into Bath if you so desired! Don’t worry, your Travel Plan Coordinators have you covered again! Plan your trip before you leave by looking at some of these useful links that inform you of any accidents, roadworks or traffic jams that will affect your journey.
Via Michelin will show you the real time traffic flow in Eastleigh – handy for when you are about to pop out and want to avoid any traffic!
The Daily Echo is similar to the above link, but also shows you the location of any incidents clogging up the roads. Now you know which areas to avoid before you set off on your journey.
BBC Hampshire Roads shows you incidents that have occurred and it also shows you the progress of clearing the incident. Helpful for letting you know when it is safe to venture out again!
What’s On In Eastleigh?
The Southampton CTC organises bike rides in around the Eastleigh area, and regularly posts information regarding upcoming rides. Friendly and welcoming, they are always open to new members looking to join their ranks! Find out more by visiting their website.
If you are itching for more action on your bike, then checking out http://www.goskyride.com/ could be a good idea for budding bike enthusiasts. Search for local bike rides that are taking place close to Eastleigh and away you go! You can meet up with casual bike riders or push yourself and join up with experienced Sky Riders, the choice is yours. Larger, organised Sky Rides take place throughout the year across the UK and these are another good chance to have a great day out on your bike. Keep an eye out for updates on the Sky Ride home page.
Eastleigh Borough Council also have a great section on their website about local healthy activities which is highly recommended by us here at PBA. The site provides a list of things to do in and around Eastleigh Borough and involves things such as walking and cycling routes, sports clubs to join and much more. There are links to local cycle rides to try out so there is no reason not to get involved. Up to date information can be found here on Eastleigh Borough Council’s website.
