Oxford Street is set to become a vehicle free zone, within 4 years! Oxford Street has become one of London’s most famous shopping locations, and as a result visitors to the famous street are increasing every year, with Transport for London (TFL) stating that over 520,000 people walk along Oxford Street every day!
In recent years pedestrian safety on Oxford Street has become a concern, with 10 of TFLs pedestrian collision hotspots being located on Oxford Street. Plans to redirect bus routes and traffic are under way in preparation for the schemes implementation. The initiative aims to reduce pedestrian congestion and improve pedestrian safety.
This will make a day trip London even easier, meaning that you won’t have to navigate through the crowds. If anything a vehicle free street will allow more room to manoeuvre around the shops! Do you think this strategy should be implemented anywhere else?
