Fines for drivers who sit in traffic without turning off their engines are being planned in the West End (London). Traffic Wardens will patrol Westminster in Central London and give idling drivers an ‘on the spot’ of £20 from the 1st May.
This type of fine is not new however! A number of other London boroughs have previously used this type of penalty charge, but will it work? And if others have tried it have they not stuck to it?
Is this going to cut pollution, or could the money paying the traffic wardens be better used elsewhere?
Let us know what you think! Are penalty charges the right way to go to reduce pollution and encourage sustainable travel or should the focus be elsewhere?
